Five Tips to Make Your Hair the Hi-Light of the Summer!

Check out our tips on achieving the look of the summer …that you will want to keep forever.

Going lighter in the summer is a huge trend and for good reason!

We tend to spend more time in the sun and water in the warmer months and the elements have a natural lighting effect on the hair.

So why not enhance that effect with some color at the salon? Coloring our hair is a great way to get excited for the new season ahead.

The amount: too much or not enough?

Have inspiration photos ready so you and your stylist can be on the same page about how much blonde you are wanting to add to your hair.

Keep in mind that upping your amount of blonde can sometimes mean more maintenance.

Go slow: think of this as a first date for your hair.

If you are looking for a dramatic change it might be best to achieve your goal over several sessions.

Going super blonde in one session can be hard on the hair causing damage and sometimes breakage. And let’s be real, #hotgirlsummer involves hair still being attached to our head.

How high?

Where do you want your highlights to start?

Are you wanting an impactful bright blonde that starts at the root, or maybe having your highlights start by the cheekbones for some soft flickers of color?

This is another factor that can determine your maintenance. Typically, the closer the highlight is to your root the more maintenance you will have.

Don't rush your stylist: going blonde is a process that takes time and shouldn’t be rushed.

Your stylist wants your hair to come out looking and feeling great.

Rushing things can possibly cause your vision to not come out as planned and could even cause breakage.

Make sure you have blocked out enough time in your day to be at the salon and come prepared with snacks if needed.

Do your research:

if you are looking for a new stylist do your research.

Instagram is a great tool to be able to see a stylist’s work. You could even ask your friend with great color who they see.

If you end up with a stylist that refers to balayage as bellyage, my best recommendation would be to run for the hills.
