The Textured Look with a Straight-Edge Razor

Looking for a textured look that you can easily manage and not have to upkeep as much?

Cutting short hair with a straight edge razor blade will give you just that. It gives you a texture that you can easily control. It takes weight out in the interior of the hair as opposed to the scissor which removes only from the exterior of the hair, such as the length.

How can I maintain my new razor haircut look?

Having your hair cut with a razor can reduce your trips to the salon. When the side of the hair grows in bulky for men it’s common for them to come into the salon every 3 weeks or so.

When they get their haircut with the razor, they can extend their visitations due to the fact that using the razor and the cutting technique the side weight is removed and this tends to take longer to grow back in compared to the length.

Do your research!

Some things to consider would be to check out some photos online to know exactly what you are looking for - I always suggest GQ magazine for men and Hollywood haircuts for women. We all know this is the town of celebrities and most of the men in Hollywood get their hair cut with a razor because it gives that contemporary look.

What is so different about my hair texture using a razor as opposed to the scissor and why?

Another point to address is to ask questions with your stylist and share your daily routine of styling your hair and make sure that your stylist knows what your hair looks like when left “natural. Your stylist will know exactly when to use the razor or not.

For example, we would not use the razor on curly hair since it sheds the curl. If you come into the salon with straight hair and you naturally have a coarse tight textured curl, then again we would not be using the razor to create your haircut.

Will it work for you?

If you have fine straight hair and are seeking more volume, then you would be a perfect candidate for the razor because of how it will create more volume on your head as we remove weight from the crown of the interior of the hair.

Some questions to ask would be:

1. What products go well to style my hair with after the razor is used so I could create that volume and/or design your stylist just did.
2. How often do I need to clean up the razor haircut?
