How to Find the Perfect Stylist to Bring Out Your Natural Texture

“I can’t believe I have my curls back! After so many years of destroying my hair with heat, now I’m finally free to let my hair dry and finish by itself. I’m so happy!”

Searching for a stylist who can work with your natural texture can be an incredibly intimidating thing especially when you yourself may not have worn your natural texture in years.

How do you find the perfect person to help you on this journey and how do you find a great style that will wash and wear but still feels amazing on you?

Here are my top tips for embracing your natural texture.

Speak to your friends that have natural hair!

Word of mouth is always going to be the best and most efficient option when finding the perfect stylist for you.

If the friends you love, love their hairdresser you’ll most likely get along with them as well.

Pictures speak a thousand words!

Pull every possible photo that you find interesting and have your stylist go over those images with you. I recommend a detailed consultation prior to your actual haircut appointment to see if the vibe is correct with that stylist. This can be an incredibly vulnerable experience when you’re working with your natural texture for the first time in years.

It’s best to find somebody that you enjoy their company and feel at ease with. That’s 90% of the battle right there.

Step by step is the key to success!

You may not be comfortable removing all of the hair that won’t curl anymore after all the heat damage but nothing says you can’t come back three or four times to achieve the look that you’re really looking for.

There’s no point in cutting something if you don’t feel comfortable and absolutely love it.

And the last bit of advice? Embrace change!

It’s going to feel extremely strange and probably very undone compared to your everyday blow-dried style that you have been wearing for years.

It will take a little bit of time to see yourself in the mirror and get comfortable with that image. But the reality is…work with what you’ve got instead of fighting something every single day.

We’ve got enough to worry about in life, your hair should be the last thing on your mind.
